All the Leaves are Brown, and the Sky is Gray

Oh, you're all going to think I'm a liar!  I just announced that I would be away a couple of weeks, and here I am posting a card!  Well, it was a great way to procrastinate.

I masked the background with a cloud template I made by merging some clouds together on the Silhouette.  The hill template is just cut freehand.  I made a rectangle and three squares on the Silhouette and used the alignment tool for even spacing.  The leaves are a design cut from the Silhouette store called, "8 fall leaves"  I replicated them in five different sizes.  The leaves were then crumpled and inked.  The sentiment was embossed.

This card was inspired by the following challenges:
The Cameo Spotlight #3: color
Retrosketches #29  This weeks it's Laurie's card we're CASEing and here's the sketch:
Moxie Fab World: Card Design Handbook Week:  The Movement Challenge

The white foreground, in my opinion, is "white space" (not because it's white) that breaks up the card and gives it interest.  The movement in this design is almost too obvious I suppose, but it's the flow of those leaves in and through the "white space".

Thanks so much for coming over to visit.  I'm off now to grocery shop and do some cleaning before the V.I.P.s arrive!

Have a great day!

Go Pack!

I'm going to be away from the blog for a couple of weeks.  We have dear friends visiting from Scotland, and I want to be all prepared.  Confession:  I'm not a natural in the kitchen, although I wish I was.  So I need to get a head start there too.  I thought I'd share a picture my brother took of me and Gene (DH) at last night's Packers/Bears game!

I'm very shy about posting pictures, but we did have a great time!  The next photos are of my nephews room.  I took the design from his bed comforter.  I don't have a good picture of the room all put together, but it was a fun design, so I wanted to share.  It took a lot of tape, as you can imagine, but also a massive amount of touch up where the tapes had to cross, and because the walls are textured!

Thanks for coming over to visit!  I will miss you all and will try to sneak a few peeks throughout the next couple of weeks.

Much love,
Kara Lynne

A Couple of Thank Yous!

Before I share my card today, I'd like to thank Kim Hughes and the lovely people at Paper Smooches for including my card in this month's PS Patrol!  What an honor, thank you so much!

I thought I'd have all kinds of time once the kids were back in school.  I usually volunteer quite a bit at our small Christian school, but this year I also took on the role of Chairperson for our annual silent auction.  Well, let me tell you, that is quite time consuming!  So, anyway, I started making a card a week ago or more for the embossing challenge at A Blog Named Hero, and I just sat down to finish it last night.  I missed the deadline by a mile, oh well.

First time using washi tape!  I couldn't find it online to put into InLinkz.  It's Recollections brand from Michaels.  Yeah, I'm usually the last to get on board the trendy wagon.  Glad I hopped on though, that's fun stuff!  That cute dimensional flower was a lovely gift from JJ Bolton as part of her very generous give away in July.  Thank you, JJ!

Thankfully, this week's challenge as CAS-ual Fridays is:  Embossing!

Thanks for stopping over today!  I hope to visit your blogs to see your gorgeous creations soon!  Sorry about the delay.

Happy 50th Birthday!

One of my dearest friends in the world is entering into that next decade known as the 50s.  I say embrace it!  She's smitten with cupcakes so I thought I would make her this card:

I used the offset feature to outline the words twice and merged the largest outline with the number.  The center was erased from the 0 so it wouldn't be cut, and I replaced it with a couple of ovals also cut with the Silhouette.  The Letters and little bits of flying frosting were sent through the Xyron.  I cut the flowers from one of the patterned papers and trimmed some of them to match the shape of the card.  The antennae is coiled wire with Glossy Accents on the tips colored with Copic marker.  The back of the card is cut exactly like the front, but in white, and scored on one side so that it opens easily.  I used distress ink to edge around the card.  The cupcake image was fussy cut, colored with Copics, and mounted with foam.

This card was inspired by the following challenges:

The Cameo Spotlight Challenge #2:  Numbers

Moxi Fab World: Card Design Handbook Week:  The Asymmetry Challenge

Lili's Little Fairies:  Anything but a Square
Thanks for coming over to visit!  I hope you embrace your time here on Earth, no matter how many days have passed.
